The mission of BBF is to provide resources to those who desire to learn the bass but may not have the resources or support. Through a nomination process, once a year the Fund will award individuals with scholarships which include a year's worth of bass lessons, a bass guitar and mentorship with professional musicians.
Nominations will open on October 1st, 2026 for our 2027 scholarships.

"I am thrilled to receive these bass lessons! Since high school I have dreamt of playing the bass. Bass is the groove, bass is the hips of the music, so understated and badass, the bass. Music opens doors to the world, opens doors to the self, opens doors to the mystery. I am looking forward to being able to play with other musicians with more ease. And I am grateful to receive guidance and be taught by a teacher. Thank you!" - Heather W.Anthony Ramos

"Been wanting to learn the bass for 60 years of my 76 years. I am a combat wounded Vietnam veteran, 90% disabled but still moving around on my feet
Live with my wife of 40 years in our home in Oregon City, when done I would like to get in a top 40 band or an oldies but goodies band." -
Gary Hunley - 2025 Scholarship Recipient
"I'm grateful for this opportunity to get back into the creative spirit after so many years without the tools to play, and it comes with a level of genuine support I never had in the past. It's a real gift, and I hope I can take what I learn and use it to give back in some creative way. It's also a lot of fun, and we could all use a little more fun in our lives these days. " - Brandon McWilliams
“I am so excited to learn how to play the bass guitar and really happy and thankful you picked me. Thank you!”
- Adam Sanchez
"Music has always been a way for me to ground emotions and picking up the bass has been an accessible outlet for that. With Brett's Bass fund, I can take the next step and learn to express myself." - Brian Anthony-Geare
"I am so excited to watch him (Ulysses) blossom under this program. His favorite band is Harley Poe. He said "I am definitely going to be a famous musician now." My great grandfather made violins and accordions in Yugoslavia before World War II and it's always been my hope that my children could be more musically gifted than I have been. Ulysses can't wait to get started!"

We’re freaking out here at Brett's Bass Fund because our scholarship recipients are such AMAZING humans and so deserving…!
Congratulations Vincent Wright, Joe Reynolds, Amir Shell, Aiyanna Christopherson, Sita Sunil, Carrie Yanes and Hunter Buen!
“The bass is not just a pure instrument; it's a way to express your feelings and emotions. It's a gateway to another world. Learning bass will take me on an adventure of discovery. I appreciate your support!”
“Bass is not just the foundation of any good band, it's the foundation of all music, and it's an art form I give the utmost respect to. I can’t express enough how thankful I am to be given a chance to finally cross a significant barrier in my play.”
"I've been learning a lot but hit somewhat of a plateau and this is exactly what I need to get to the next level. I hope I can live up to my fullest potential and honor Brett by doing so. Again, just so grateful. Honestly all butterflies and smiles right now."
"Growing up, my parents showed me so many great artists and so many different genres of music, to the point that my first words were a line from a funk song. Music has been a great outlet for me to express my emotions when it's hard to find the right words to describe them."
